This takes a MIDI signal through a standard DIN cable and outputs it to logic level signals that can be used by microprocessors etc to do fun stuff like displays or sounds.
Now I can make as many of these as I need! It is also a component of the MIDI in/out/thru interface.
Here's a view of the hammer mechanisms mounted onto plywood plates and set in place in the instrument case that will become the glockenbox
I was designing a circuit with Copilot and it just couldn't get the components to connect correctly, so I asked Coppy to draw me a picture of a 6N138, an 8-pin DIP. It invented these.
This is my street organ, based off of plans for the John Smith Topsy 3. It's not pretty, but it works!
I started work on this contraption November 2022. The construction has been an adventure in and of itself.
Several tasks and iterations to bring the glockenbox into fruition!
These LED Poi are based on the Overview | Genesis Poi: DotStar LED Persistence-of-Vision | Adafruit Learning System
I also used the double staff tutorial: https://learn.adafruit.com/pov-dotstar-double-staff
I used Pro Trinket 5v instead of Trinket that is listed in the poi tutorial. I made a lower and higher resolution versions.
This article documents a compact, mirrored, dual‑channel high‑side driver designed for 12 V pallet magnets using the IRF9520 P‑channel MOSFET. Each channel includes a gate network, flyback protection, indicator LED, and a manual test button. The design is optimized for clarity, repairability, and modularity.
