Bass bonker

Focus is a huge issue.  I get distracted easily and quickly run doHey look, a monkey!! ... where was I?  So, listening to my lignoutron and glockenbox projects, I thought, hey wouldn't it be neat if I could extend down an octave?  I mean, the bars are maple.  Surely I could replicate those.  Well, as you go lower, you really need more resonance to support the fundamental.  How about a bigger version of the resonator box I built already?  Naw, not enough.  Maybe pipes.  I have a bunch of PVC pipes from another whacky project ideation.  But hey, I also have a huge pile of old wooden organ pipes salvaged from a church junk pile (see the picture for my resultant pile).  Most of those aren't in great shape and I have much better pipes (that I'll probably never get around to using), so I started thinking about how to use those!  I got some quarter-sawn maple from Woodcraft for the tone bars and started experimenting with tuning and stuff.  I arrived at this -- cutting an organ pipe to the right length to support the fundamental, close off the ends and cut a resonance hole a the middle, then bridge a maple bar across that hole.  I'm using screws , o-rings, and piano front rail punchings, and here's the results so far.  

I'll use bass piano hammer heads because anything harder would emphasize the higher harmonics.  I'm thinking of building individual hammer actions and mounting them to the resonator pipe for a simple design.

No, this wasn't the next on my list.  Blame my brain.
